Wonder If He Used Any County Computers

One of the highest-paid county employees is accused of luring an underage girl for sex.
A Clark County fire captain was arrested Friday, accused of placing an ad on Craigslist to lure young girls for sex, Henderson police said Monday. The arrest came after he allegedly arrived at a Henderson parking lot to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

Martin Vohwinkel, 55, was tracked by an undercover Henderson police detective and charged with using technology to lure children for sexual purposes, said Keith Paul, spokesman for the Henderson Police Department.
Vohwinkel was the 15th highest-paid county employee in 2008, pocketing nearly $300k in total compensation.

Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It

Democratic politicians in Washington are claiming that, if only we relinquish even more control over our health care system to the government, we can reduce costs and improve performance.

Many years ago we essentially turned over control of our education system to the government. Yes, there are private schools and homeschooling but the vast majority of children attend government-run public schools.

The result has been that spending on education has skyrocketed while student performance has been flat, at best. Is there any reason to believe that health care would be any different?

Facing Face to Face

Senator Randolph Townsend was on Jon Ralston's Face to Face tonight discussing the special session. He reiterated his "No is not a plan" slogan, applying it to both those who reject paying higher taxes and those who reject cuts to their programs.

Ralston's other two guests were Nevada Higher Education Chancellor Dan Klaich and Superintendent of the Clark County School District Walt Rulffes. Ralston can be a tough interviewer, regardless of who his guest is. He was one of the very few to press candidate Obama during the 2008 campaign. (Video at the link doesn't work.) But with the two state ed leaders? Well, suffice to say that I'm wondering if he's available to pitch batting practice to my 6-year old daughter's softball team tomorrow night.
